Password Encryption

Every time you sign up for a new account on a website, your password gets stored on a database. But what happens if, for whatever reason, someone gains access to that database? Would he/she be able to see your password?

Not if your password is encrypted. Encrypted passwords are stored as a series of seemingly random letters and numbers. Not even the website’s administrator can read it. That way, even if the list of login credentials falls into the wrong hands, the accounts will not be compromised.
